The invention of the turbine

Michael Mosley, Cassie Newland and Mark Miodownik from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ series The Genius of Invention describe the scientific achievements of Charles Parsons. He further developed Faraday’s dynamo to build a better, more reliable engine. He wanted a one-step engine, not a two-step one, in order to increase efficiency. As a result, he developed the rotary engine in 1884. He developed a double set of blades to extract more energy from the same steam, and a narrowing gap between blades to mean they move faster.
