1980s childhood: Chloe and Michelle
Chloe asks mum Michelle about growing up in the 1980s. Every morning, Michelle’s mum would light a coal fire because they didn’t have central heating. When the electricity meter ran out, Michelle would play shadow animals on the wall from the light of the fire. There was very little money around - they lived in a two bed terrace and Michelle’s brothers shared one room, while Michelle slept in her mum and dad’s room.
