The Education act of 1944 made it compulsory for all schools to supply every child with a school dinner.
It instantly became an institution, loved by some, loathed by others. But whether you look back at them with fondness or terror, one thing’s for sure they will have left an indelible mark on the memory of everyone who ate them.
