In front of 32,000 people in New York's Yankee Stadium, the Welsh Tonypandy Terror took the American Brown Bomber the distance. He was one of only three men to achieve that feat.
Here the late Harry Carpenter, former Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ boxing commentator, describes Tommy Farr's fight as "one of the best performances ever by any British boxer abroad".
Thomas George Farr, born 12 March 1913, died 1 March 1986. Born in Clydach Vale, Wales and nicknamed "the Tonypandy Terror", he became British and Empire heavyweight champion on 15 March 1937. Prior to 1936, he had boxed in the light heavyweight division in which he was the Welsh champion.
