New crackdown on fake drugs

Pharmaceutical firms team up with Interpol to fight counterfeit medicines.

The international police agency Interpol has agreed a deal with 29 large drug firms to combat the sale of counterfeit medicines, which could account for up to 50% of drugs used in developing countries. We hear from Interpol and from Mira Shiva, an Indian doctor sceptical about the motives of the pharmaceutical firms.
