Olive Christopher worked for two years in the underground Cabinet War Rooms, one of only eight civilian secretaries employed there. Their salaries ranged between 75 pence and two pounds, 10 shillings per week and they had access to the highest levels of secret information, including the date for D-Day and the movements of British troops.
