Did You Know?

Michael Straight was an American whose family founded the New Republic magazine and who studied at Cambridge at the same time as Blunt and Burgess. Blunt recruited him to the Communist Party, but Straight later claimed to have left it in 1941.

In 1964, Straight admitted to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that he had been recruited to Soviet intelligence and said he was prepared to testify against Blunt. Blunt then confessed in return for immunity from prosecution.
