King Creon laments the death of his son Haemon and then receives the news of his wife's suicide. King Creon calls for someone to kill him in his grief, fully accepting his blame for their deaths. Creon, supported by the Chorus, expresses how his personal blindness and egotism have led to his fate and downfall.
