But even in the capital the cracks are starting to show. Food is running low and refugees continue to pour in from the suburbs and countryside – and throughout the coldest winter in 20 years, refugees have continued to flee the country.

In Australia conservationists are trying to save the wombats. Recently their numbers have been reduced - through disease, and shooting by farmers - but Georgina Kenyon has found some friends of the wombat who are keen to keep their species alive.
