Since the 1980s, the line has been served by a restored K1 steam train provided and maintained by a group of steam enthusiasts. The train driver, Callum MacRaild, describes his working day as the journey progresses through some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe.

The West Highland Line was voted the top rail journey in the world by readers of independent travel magazine 'Wanderlust' in 2009. Glenfinnan is famous for its 21-arch concrete viaduct, built by Robert McAlpine (known as Concrete Bob) and completed in 1901.
