Septimius Severus and black Roman soldiers
London has a rich mix of people and cultures from all over the world. The population is constantly changing and people have been coming and going for centuries. In the past years a lot of black and Asian people have settled in parts of Britain.
Many years ago, there was an African Roman Emperor, Septimius Severus, who ruled large parts of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. When he came to Hadrian’s Wall in 208AD, there were black soldiers already stationed there, they had travelled right across the Empire.
