The inspiration for Ovid's poetry

Ovid describes the inspiration for a new work of poetry - the theme of love causing transformations throughout creation, fire, flood, animals and humans. He explains how his work will be different to epic or tragic work because of his references to the natural world and the role of the gods. He implies that his work will undoubtedly anger the Emperor as the moral code opposes the Roman ideal, but acknowledges that he must include references to Caesar in his poetry.
