Industrialisation of rural Shaxi (pt 1/3)

The small rural town of Shaxi has been long neglected by its neighbour, Shanghai. But local Communist Party Secretary Gao Qiangdong intends to change this by industrialising this rural area. The response has been both quick and positive. Sons of farmers, having received a good education, are now running their own successful manufacturing businesses supplying goods to foreign clients via the container port of Taicang. We meet two local entrepreneurs: unlike their fathers with their 'face to the earth, back to the sky', they've made it good. They're part of China's 'educated peasantry' who have benefited from economic reforms. Although much of the farmland will disappear with the building of new factories, Party Secretary Gao believes that this is the only way for Shaxi to survive and move forward in a fast developing economy.
