Urban planning in Shanghai - Professor Ruan Yisan (pt 1/3)

Shanghai has become a battleground for architects and developers all fighting to make their mark. But, Ruan Yisan, Professor of Urban Planning at Tongji University, is a fierce campaigner for preserving some of the city’s older buildings.

He has been involved with the renovation of many of Shanghai’s magnificent banks and hotels dating from China’s colonial period. He also helped with the design of the elevated waterfront promenade, which allows pedestrians to admire the city's views in safety.
