The Citizens advice bureau in Kent is facing cash crisis

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Kent's Citizen Advice Bureau is warning its service will be cut back next year because of changes to legal aid. Branches in Kent will lose about Β£1m of funding from their budget, and specialist staff will lose their jobs, because of Government plans to cut legal aid for welfare cases. Some branches have already found it tough - with Shepway asking for an emergency council loan, and Paddock Wood recently having to close because of a cash shortage (06:07, 07:07 and 08:08).

Also, a Canterbury woman who's dying from cancer says she fears for other patients under the Kent doctor who treated her. Howard Smedley admitted three errors in the care of Debbie Westwick which the General Medical Council ruled amounted to serious misconduct. Miss Westwick says that as a consultant Dr Smedley was left too much to his own devices. But the health trust which employed him says after reviewing his work it's satisfied with the care Dr Smedley's patients received (06:25, 07:39 and 08:39).

Clinton Cards, Peacocks, Past Times and Game stores - all famous names on the High Street which have gone into administration this year.

The latest Kent Property Market Report says shop vacancy rates have remained static, with prospective tenants nervous over committing themselves to town centres (07:48 and 08:53).
