Oliver Stone: ‘Growing marijuana is like growing wine’
Film director Oliver Stone speaks to Mark Lawson on Front Row about his new film, ‘Savages’, which sees the lives of two marijuana growers in California turned upside down when they fall foul of a violent drugs cartel in Mexico. The film stars John Travolta, Benicio del Toro and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and is based on the novel of the same name by Don Winslow. Stone sees the real-life California drugs growers as akin to the fine wine producers in the region and says the drugs prevention departments are profiting from the so-called war on drugs as much as the illegal drugs producers themselves.
