35,000 households in Kent on waiting list for a council house

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Are you on the waiting list for a council house? If so, you are in good company. More than 35,000 households are waiting to be rehomed in Kent, including 15,000 in Medway where the number is going up by 400 every month. This has promoted the local council to rethink the way it allocates who gets to the front of the queue for social housing. (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07)

Also, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has learned that the former head of the Financial Services Authority, Howard Davies, is to chair an independent commission which will examine how to increase airport capacity in the UK. Central to that will be the thorny question of whether or not to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport or a new hub airport off Kent in the Thames Estuary. It will report after the next election

Meanwhile - with a new Transport Secretary in place, bosses at Manston are urging the Government to back the expansion of the airport. Chief Executive Charles Buchanan says it is one of the few options that is ready to go now (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).

You've heard us trailing this - the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Antiques Roadshow is in Kent today, at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham. There is free advice and valuations on offer from a range of experts. One of them is Henry Sandon - he values porcelain, and he will tell us what he's hoping to see today (08:48).
