Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Comedy Award 2012: Edinburgh heat

Find out which comedian came out on top in Edinburgh.

The very first heat of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Comedy Award 2012 took place on August 11 in the hometown of new comedy, Edinburgh and was hosted by top stand-up Seann Walsh.

10 of the 80 comedians we picked from entries of over 800 stepped onto the stage at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Potterrow site to try their luck with our audience and the judges; stand-up Chris Ramsey, Chortle's Steve Bennett, Executive Producer Alison Vernon-Smith and Producer Lianne Coop from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Comedy Award.

Of course, for some Edinburgh is a long way from home, so we caught all the action on camera for you to watch from the comfort of your own living rooms (or wherever you keep your computer). Watch the film above to find out the winner of the heat and indulge in all the action, complete with some of the performers from this year's Edinburgh Festival and the music of Iggy Pop and Scottish band, There Will Be Fireworks.

At the end of the heats, two runners-up will be selected by the judges to go straight through one of our two semi-finals. Eight more runners-up will be chosen to compete online in a wildcard vote, where you'll be able to watch more footage of each performer and vote for who you think deserves a place in the semi-final. Voting will open once all the heats have taken place on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 website.

Acts: Finn Taylor, Christian Talbot, Chloe Philip, Richard Todd, Laurence Tuck, Paul Sweeney, Tom Toal, Matthew Winning, Liam Williams and Darren Walsh.
