‘I was in bits watching it again’
Mark Gatiss speaks to The Film Programme's Matthew Sweet about his love of Lewis Gilbert's wartime biopic Carve Her Name With Pride, starring Virginia Mckenna. The 1958 film tells the story of Violette Szabo, a secret agent who leaves her family behind to fight in occupied France. Gatiss re-assesses the film and finds beauty and revelation beneath the Pinewood Studios gloss.
