On 28 August 1963, Martin Luther King stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC to tell a vast crowd of his supporters below about his dream for racial equality. At a time when racism was common in society and a black face on television was rare, Benjamin explains that his dramatic delivery and powerful rhetoric helped drive home his message and unite black America under the civil rights movement.
