How do you feel about gay couples kissing in public?

You are walking through the town centre and you spot a young couple walking towards you holding hands, they stop for a moment and kiss. How do you feel? They are both men - does that make a difference?

A young gay man from Tonbridge says that in his home town he and his boyfriend are verbally abused, spat at and threatened. Whereas four miles down the road in Tunbridge Wells it never happens. What would you do if you saw them touching in public? Is your town homophobic? Is it brave or foolish to show affection in public if you're gay? Should gay couples report verbal abuse to the police?

It has made us talk to strangers, smile at each other, cry tears of joy and it has reminded us what national pride feels like.

However, the crucial question is - how long will the Olympic buzz last?

After all, the problems we face each day - uncertainty in our jobs, our state of health, how much money we have in our pocket and everything else have never gone away.

Can the feelings we have enjoyed over the past few weeks last - or will they ebb away quickly?
