High Street Retailers Under Pressure

A Wellingborough businessman says he's had to relocate his shop from the town centre to an out-of-town industrial estate because of spiralling business rates.

Wellingborough businessman Chris Johnson has relocated his shop "Blind Sensations" from Market Street in Wellingborough town centre to Park Farm Industrial Estate because of increasing business rates. Reporter Rebecca Dickson talks to Chris about the move while Stuart talks to Councillor Tim Allebone, Chair of Development for the Borough Council of Wellingborough, and to John Cable, the manager of the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID). John is also the owner of Brides of Wellingborough.

Sue Roberts, the Chair of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Rye Hill, tells Stuart about a report that shows significant improvements in the prison's medical care but says it still has too many problems with staffing and violence.

As the contractors who will build the University Technical College (UTC) at Silverstone are named, Stuart talks to Robert Emery from Tresham, the man in charge of overseeing the project.

Northamptonshire's County Toy Library reopens at a shop unit in Kings Heath in Northampton. Stuart talks to Helen Heather, one of the parents who campaigned to keep it open.

Plus, Northampton swimming coach Jacquie Marshall, who guided Olympic swimmer Caitlin McClatchey in her early years, tells Stuart about her medal chances, and the Leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor David Mackintosh, tells reporter Rebecca Dickson about the 33 feet tall Lady Godiva puppet that will arrive in Northampton, powered by 100 cyclists.
