Why don't people report rape?

Why don't people report rape?

Were you raped or assaulted - did you tell anyone? Victim Support believes nine out of ten victims of rape and sexual assault in Kent never report the crime. Why?

The charity Family Matters says one of the key problems is that we do not have a dedicated Sexual Assault Referral Centre unlike neighbouring Sussex and Surrey. Is that why men and women don't come forward when they've attacked? Why didn't you?

The Rape Crisis website made me think this morning that it is about feeling like you are to blame - these are the first words on their webpage about reporting rape "If you have been raped the most important thing to remember is that it was not your fault." Did you feel you were in some way to blame?

Were you convinced no-one would believe you? Did you feel ashamed? Maybe you never told anyone. There are people listening this morning who have never told anyone they were raped or sexually assaulted.

Did you see When I Get Older on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One last night?

It began the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's season of documentaries examining the changing problems of our ageing society.

John Simpson, Gloria Hunniford, Lesley Joseph and Tony Robinson move in with pensioners experiencing the toughest problems facing old people in the UK.

All very moving stories - with two of them featuring families living here in Kent.

We speak to Gloria Hunniford.

We hear your views and stories.
