Why is the transit of Venus so rare?
Biologist Liz Bonnin explains why the unlikely combination of conditions needed for a transit of Venus means it won’t happen again for another century. The tilted orbit of Venus and the different speeds of the two planets mean that Venus and Earth’s orbits will only ever cross at two points.
