The Metropolitan Police has paid out Β£8.9m in compensation over 6 years to settle complaints over police actions, a rise in the use of sleeping pills saw NHS spending on the drugs reach nearly Β£50 million last year and 2 in 5 new mothers have struggled to cope with the demands of parenting during the first few weeks after birth.
