First birthday for Turner Contemporary

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent was there, you will remember, exactly one year ago today when Turner Contemporary opened it's doors for the first time. It was supposed to be a catalyst for regenerating Margate, a magnet for visitors, and a cultural beacon for Kent.

They are claiming they have achieved all of those things and more, and they believe they can sustain their success into the future (06:06; 07:07 and 08:07).

Kent's missing out on thousands of pounds worth of fines as hundreds of foreign drivers are escaping speeding tickets on the county's roads.

Last year over 15 hundred speed cameras were activated by foreign-registered vehicles - according to the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership. That is twice the number recorded in 2008.

But as there is no routine way of identifying the owners of vehicles from outside the UK, most escape punishment (06:25, 07:25 and 08:25).

The Kent pressure group Animal Aid is again calling for changes to the Grand National after two more horses were killed in Saturday's event.

The most high-profile fatality was the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Synchronised (08:38).
