Inventing the wheel
When danger approaches the salamander and moth caterpillar have developed unusual methods of escape and in this case rolling is the quickest way to get downhill. The salamander is designed to flex like a rubber tyre so it's doesn't feel the bumps. The pearl moth caterpillar has a similar rolling ability and to make things easier, it rolls with its caterpillar track on the inside.
