In this radio clip from 1943, the Bishop of Egypt and Sudan gives the President's speech at the Eisteddfod held in Egypt in World War II.
This extraordinary Forces Eisteddfod was held in Egypt in 1943, under the auspices of the Cairo Welsh Society. It was organised by the Reverend J Madoc Jones for the benefit of the troops. Richard Aethwy Jones was the Archdruid. Following the tradition of all Eisteddfods, the Archdruid Richard Aethwy Jones asks three times: 'A oes heddwch?' ('Is there peace?') and the crowd reply: 'Heddwch' (Peace). W J Jones Caernarfon won the chair and the Reverend Llewellyn Gwyn, Bishop of Egypt and Sudan, was President of the day.
