The campaign, Fair Fuel UK, has been led by the Kent businessmen Peter Carroll and Howard Cox. It is expected hundreds of people will be joining them to lobby MPs inside Parliament.

The campaigning material emblazoned STOP ESTUARY AIRPORT is available for free from the council's libraries. It has angered some local businesses in favour of an airport, who say it is wrong to use public funds for a political campaign.

One of them is Cliff Oulds, the owner of ACS Imaging, a sign-writing business on the Medway City Estate.

One-in-five patients turning up at Kent's accident and emergency departments should not be there, and it is wasting millions of pounds. This is according to a draft report from Kent County Council which says more people should be using walk-in centres and minor injuries units instead.
