Christopher Tappin: Kent pensioner extradited to America

Matt Davison sits in alongside John with the latest news, travel, and weather for Kent.

The Orpington businessman Christopher Tappin is heading to America to face accusations that he conspired to sell missile components to Iran.

The 65 year-old maintains he is the victim of a sting operation. His lawyer says it is "very likely" he will enter into a plea agreement to reduce his sentence (06:07, 07:07 and 08:00).

Kent's Adoption Service is "inadequate", according to a report from government inspectors OFSTED, which says there are too many children in the county still waiting to be placed with adoptive families.

The County Council, however, has criticised the inspection team, claiming verbal feedback to staff three months ago led them to believe the service was to be rated as good and borderline outstanding.

Social services managers believe inspectors changed their mind after seeing the results of an internal report into Kent's adoption services by the former head of Barnados, Martin Narey (06:20, 07:22 and 08:22).

Only three out of thirteen councils in Kent say they have no plans to increase parking charges.

That is the result of a survey carried out this week by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent.

The three councils which say they are not going to have any kind of increase, Swale, Dartford and Ashford (06:48 and 07:48).
