Bruce looks at boat building south.
He's joined by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Simon Rogers.
Plus the impact of Vosper Thorneycroft on the region and how RNLI boats are built.

In a short series for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent, Bruce Parker taps into the south's rich history.

With the help of those in the know from across Hampshire Dorset and the Isle of Wight and using Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ South’s archive.

This week Bruce looks at the South’s boat building past.

Simon Rogers tells Bruce about the 50 year old Lymington based family business.

There's a chance to hear part of a programme Bruce made for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ television in the early 1980s about Vosper Thornycroft. And he talks to former Daily Echo correspondent and Vosper Thornycroft expert Philip Rood.

Neil Sackley's been to the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre in Cowes, an area where lifeboats have been built for almost a century.

And Bruce reminisces about Uffa Fox with sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.

And from the archives, a brief resume of Bucklers Hard’s boat building past.

For those travelling across the south of England today, there is travel news as it happens.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent offers a choice of listening on a Sunday evening, with Bruce on 96.1 and 103.8FM, on 999 and 1359 AM and on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer.
