The suggestion is that the riots last summer might not have happened if parents felt able to smack their kids when out of line.
The Council of Europe wants a total ban on any form of hitting as punishment though.
Are we failing our children by not disciplining them properly? Do we need to be able to smack our children to keep them in line? Or should we just patiently keep explaining about right and wrong?

And a new file sharing database within the police force is enabling the public to be notified if their partner has a history of domestic violence.
There are 400 serial domestic violence offenders known to Kent Police. One victim, Polly from Sevenoaks, recalls four years of mental and physical abuse from her ex-husband (10.35).
