Are unaccompanied children arriving at Dover really our problem?
Until recently there was a secret agreement between Britain and France that allowed unaccompanied children who arrived in Dover to be sent straight back across the channel.
If the children did not ask for asylum they could be removed from Kent pretty much straight away.
It has been going on for sixteen years, but the practice has now stopped after the Children's Commissioner found out about it. Maggie Atkinson says the children are vulnerable and are entitled to protection. She wants Kent to look after these children as if they are our own local orphans.
Do you agree? Are foreign children as important as Kent children? Are you horrified or delighted that immigration officers have been able to send children straight back out of the country? Are unaccompanied foreign children arriving in Kent really our problem?
We hear your views and opinions.
We visit the home of The Sullivans in Hoo. A family numbering 13. Yes, 13! They have had to buy a minibus to cope with the demands of their horde of children and regularly get through 20 loaves and 50 pints of milk a week!
They are going to be featured on a TV show tonight. Mum Tania, Dad Michael and the children speak to Julia this morning.
