Kent commuters swap rail for road to get to London

Could the rising cost of rail travel be forcing train commuters onto coaches? Coach companies in Kent say they have seen a significant jump in their business since the last round of rail fare increases, and one firm is planning to offer a new commuter service from right outside Tunbridge Wells station (06:06, 07:07 and 08:07).

Residents in Dungeness are fighting a controversial planning application from the Environment Agency and EDF to remove thousands of tonnes of shingle from the beach and use it as part of flood defences for the nearby power station.

Tonight they will tell a public meeting that lorries trundling past their door will make their lives a misery and the scheme is flawed (06:22 and 07:22).

The much-loved Kent comedian and fundraiser Dave Lee has died after suffering from pancreatic cancer. He was a stand-up and warm up man for stars like Michael Parkinson, Michael Aspel and Jimmy Tarbuck, and had been set on a solo comedy career by the great Eric Morecambe.

Dave was also a fundraiser and the public face of the charity Dave Lee's Happy Holidays based here in the county (08:22).
