KCC assumes responsibility for public health in Kent

If we asked you who is responsible for public health, what would you say? Probably the NHS. Well, not for much longer. The government wants local councils to take on a whole load of responsibilities around public health, like getting the obesity rate down, and encouraging more pregnant mums to stop smoking (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

Early indications show that whilst many young people are taking longer to make up their minds about applying for university, fewer than feared are being put off all together.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent has leant that here in the county, nearly 6,000 people have already applied to go to university at the start of the next academic year, but nearly half of them waited until December to put in their forms (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).

Analysts believe we could have to pay more for a cross Channel ferry after Seafrance went out of business. Yesterday, a court in Paris decided the firm's future after a bailout by the French government was ruled illegal by the European Commission.

French railway operator SNCF had offered a rescue plan, but the European Commission would not allow it as it said it breached state aid rules. The court also said an offer by a cooperative of employees was not credible.
