More than 18,000 homes in Kent could soon become unaffordable to people on benefits. According to the Chartered Institute for Housing which has published new figures claiming Kent's 55,000 housing benefit claimants face a shortage of affordable homes.

The Chartered Institute for Housing says that as a result of government reforms, the number of people on housing benefit is expected to outstrip the number of affordable houses in the county by about two-to-one.

Business leaders in Thanet are backing night flights at Manston airport. They are supporting the owners of the site, Infratil, which says that if the airport is to succeed, night flights have to become a reality. A public consultation on the idea is due to be held later this year.

It comes in the wake of Flybe's recent announcement that it is pulling out of Kent entirely, which Manston's owners say simply underlines the need for flexibility in the future.

You probably expect a little bit of variation in fuel prices when you fill up your car, but Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent has discovered there is a massive 14p a litre difference between the cheapest and most expensive garages in the county. Even shopping around within the same town can save you 11p a litre.
