Mark Wilsonβs Scottish Musical Journey Stage 1 - Carlisle and the Reivers
Mark Wilson begins his Scottish musical journey just south of the border at Carlisle Castle where many of the Border Reivers were imprisoned.
A number of old Scottish ballads were written to commemorate these Reivers... Rod Paterson is a leading performer, singer and authority on Scottish lowland and border ballads and he performs a track and tells Mark more about the ballad tradition.
Mark visits the Tullie House Museum to find out more about the lawless thieves, raiders and bandits - and he discovers many familiar family namesβ¦
After James VI came to the throne many of the Reivers moved to Ulster, bringing their ballads with them. (Broadcast: 28th Sep 2011)
