Moving the South Pole

The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station stands on an ice cap, more than 3,000m thick. What few people realise is that this ice cap moves, at a rate of around 10m every year.

Every year, on new year’s day, the science team at the station have a ceremony to mark the moving of the pole, back to the accurately placed geographic South Pole. Dan Rees was there to take part.
