Birmingham template for 20bn project funding

Government plans to attract billions of pounds from British pension funds to pay for infrastructure schemes have been based on the model in place at Birmingham airport.

Airport bosses will pay for a new runway extension with money from pension funds for Canadian teachers and Australian miners.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander says this will provide the blueprint for British pension funds.
