Concern for Dartford Crossing during Olympics

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

The London Olympics will be a once-in-a-lifetime event, with spectators and athletes from all over the world coming to our capital. However, that means more traffic, and councillors in Dartford are worried about just how bad the queues and delays will be.

There is particular concern about the Dartford Crossing as drivers try to avoid the Blackwall Tunnel.

Parents opposed to the expansion of a grammar school in their area have had a right to object, but now Education Secretary Michael Gove has decided that if any school wishes to increase its intake, it should be able to.

We speak to former grammar school boy, the MP for Dartford Gareth Johnson and the headteacher of a Tunbridge Wells Secondary School.

It has been discovered that they had exactly the same problems as us 2,000 years ago.

A Kent academic has just published a new book on how people got from A to B in ancient Rome and other cities of the empire like Ostia and Pompeii, and where they might have parked the cart when they got there. We speak to Professor Ray Laurence, from the University of Kent.
