Union fears postal delays this Christmas

Clare McDonnell is live from Tunbridge Wells Delivery Office with a special programme looking at Royal Mail's plans for delivering all the Christmas post.

The postal worker's union, the CWU, says it is worried there could be a repeat of last Christmas's problems unless more casual labour is brought in to cut the backlog.

This time last year, changes to working patterns coupled with heavy snow, led to letters, parcels and packages turning up late, in some cases not until after Christmas in in a number of places, particularly in east Kent.

Can sport help turn lives around? That's the aim of a charity linked to Charlton Athletic which runs a school in New Romney for teenagers who have dropped out of mainstream education.

The Premier League also runs a scheme called Kicks, which uses football to engage with young people.

But Folkestone and Hythe MP Damian Collins wants even more projects like these to be funded across the country and is raising the issue in Parliament later today.

A Kent youngster is about to take on the famous role of Oliver Twist. His voice will be heard on radio stations across America this Christmas in a special adaptation of the story.

Twelve-year-old Joe Holgate, from Tankerton, has spent 10 days recording Charles Dickens' classic tale.
