3,500 jobs to be created in Medway under new plans

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

3,500 jobs could be created and an area of the Medway towns transformed under plans announced by one of Britain's biggest developers.

The Peel Group, which built Manchester's Trafford Centre and MediaCity at Salford has submitted plans for a multi-million pound project, to include a superstore, hotel, homes and offices, on 26 acres of brownfield land near the River Medway. Work on the scheme, known as Chatham Waters, could start in two years' time.

Tributes are being paid to a former soldier and teacher from Kent who has fallen to his death in a ravine on an island in the Indian Ocean. Thirty-three-year-old Carl Davies had been working for a private security company on the island of Reunion near Mauritius when the tragedy happened.

The European financial crisis has already hit Italy and Greece, and now it has spread to turkey - the oven-ready variety. Producers say they're having to pass on large rises in their costs to the customer who this year may have to pay around Β£80 for a fresh turkey.

Tony Fleck from Sutton Vallence plans to offload 1,200 of his Kelly Bronze fresh turkeys for the Christmas table this year.
