Enforced retirement 'causing anger among police officers'

Over the next four years, police forces face a 20% cut in government funding. But how the police decide to deal with that reduction has been causing anger among officers, with Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands using regulation A19. This means they can force officers with at least 30 years service to retire - police officers can NOT be made redundant. It's led to claims that front line policing could be badly affected. BUT it's a different story with West Mercia - it's the only force in the Midlands not using A19, and they're actually recruiting senior officers.
