Robert Gardiner considers the effect of colonial authority on race relations in his fifth Reith lecture entitled 'Political Meetings'.

Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Robert Gardiner discusses the issues of race in his Reith series entitled 'A World of Peoples'. Born in Ghana, he has worked as the Head of the Ghana Civil Service, is a former Deputy Executive Secretary for the Economic Commission for Africa and has authored the book 'Development of Social Administration'.

In this lecture entitled 'Political Meetings', Robert Gardiner examines the difficult affiliation between ruling and ruled peoples in the classic colonial situation. Exploring the power relationship, he highlights the conflicts that have arisen due to colonial dominance and considers how, in the neo-colonialist era, independent states progress their newly established authority.
