Monty Don sows hardy annuals

Hardy annuals can be sown in autumn, but Monty Don’s Herefordshire soils are cold and wet. Sowing in spring when the soil has warmed and the daylight hours are longer is what Monty prefers to do. Monty sows cornflower, Centaurea cyanus, in patterned drills and that way he will be able to distinguish between his germinating flower seed and any emerging weed seed.
