In the pink
Returning to the coast on only a few days each year, walruses gather in large numbers on those beaches which are safe from predators. As a warm blooded mammal, the walrus usually concentrates its blood in its core, since the water it lives in is so cold. But on land the outer blood vessels dilate, turing their skin a shade of pink as the walruses lie in the sun.
