Salt seekers
As the tide goes out along the beaches of the Bahamas, the strength of the sun causes the remaining floodwaters to evaporate, turning the area white with a salt crust. Only very specialised creatures can thrive in such extremes of salinity. The Caribbean flamingo actively searches out these salty locations where there is an abundance of their favourite food, and the caustic waters offer a degree of protection for their young.
