Life on the sea bed
On the sea floor water temperatures can fall below four degrees centigrade and pressure can be 400 times that on the surface. Only three per cent of available food from the surface will make its way down here. The water is crystal clear due to the lack of organic matter, yet astonishing creatures are found here, many relatively new to science. They are thinly distributed but the vastness of the sea floor mean they are among the most abundant animals on the planet.
