Classical music and inner city schools

Cellist Julian Lloyd Webber has helped set up In Harmony, a new government project based in Lambeth, Liverpool and Norfolk designed to improve the lives of disadvantaged young kids by giving them classical musical training.

Lloyd Webber was inspired by a groundbreaking music scheme in Venezuela, which gives thousands of children the chance to play in orchestras. Shifts in the UK’s education policy, meanwhile, have largely robbed a whole generation of state-school kids of the chance to play and appreciate classical music.
