Flying reptiles
Pterosaurs existed for 170 million years. There were pterosaurs of all sizes. Early ones were about the size of sparrows. Later they got bigger and bigger. They fed on insects, fish and one may even have been a filter feeder. Some bizarre pterosaurs have come from Brazil, including one with an extraordinary flange on its bill. David Attenborough talks to Peter Wellnhofer about this pterosaur's anatomy. The flange was no use in flight, but could have stabilised the skull in the water.
